Driver Education: Sign up students for Driver Education

*The phone number for Driver Education here at ESU #3 is now 597-4848.

As you are preparing to sign up students for driver education, we just want to remind you a few changes/requirements.

*Students who are or will be 18 when the class starts are NOT eligible to take driver education with us. We are not certified to teach 18 year old students.

*We have had several questions in regards to teaching students who are 14 years old in schools outside the metro area. We will teach 14 year old students who are eligible for a school permit. However, they must either hold a School Learner’s Permit (Type LPE) or a School Permit (Type SCP). So if a student is 14 and has a permit number from the DMV, they may enroll in Driver Education. If they do not have a permit number, they must obtain a School Learner’s Permit before we can accept them.

*Attendance is MANDATORY for all class meetings. State law requires 20 hours of classroom time. So it is important when students sign up that they are aware of this policy and can devote the necessary time to the class.

Media: ESU #3 Installs PowerMediaPlus Streaming Server

Beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, those districts subscribing to the PowerMediaPlus service will receive their videos from the ESU #3 streaming server.

In the past, these videos were served over the internet from a server located in Chicago. The speed of the transmission was directly correlated to the amount of traffic on the internet at that time. With the addition of the streaming server at ESU 3 and the elimination of this possible internet traffic, users should notice an increase in play quality. The option of downloading the video to the computer for playing at a later time is still available.
An additional benefit to the streaming server is it now also contains the 2007 video collection from the Instructional Materials state-wide purchase. PowerMediaPlus digitizes the Nebraska collection and creates both full and segmented versions. They continue to work on the 2008 collection and those videos will be available as PowerMediaPlus completes them. For more information on the PMP streaming server contact Bill Menousek by email or at (402) 597-4890.
